CONGRATULATIONS CHERYL!!!
CONGRATULATIONS ADULT EDUCATION!!!
For
the first time in the history of federally funded adult education, a State
Director has been named the Director of the Federal adult education office. And who better than a state director who not only has labored
to develop quality policy and programs, but also has represented State
Directors so often in national forums.
By
now you have heard that Cheryl Keenan, former Pennsylvania Adult Education
State Director has been named to fill Ron Pugsley's former position as the
Director of the Division of Adult Education and Literacy.
Cheryl's
appointment is a tribute to and recognition of the contributions she has made
as State Director in Pennsylvania. Her
pioneering work in program quality with the Project EQUAL, her persistence
with developing high quality assessment standards, her national leadership in
distance learning and national programs, her representing State Directors on
the NIFL Board, and her service on the NAEPDC and NCSDAE executive committees
are but a few of her contributions.
Cheryl's
appointment is such an exciting development for our field.
Because she has struggled with and understands the issues related to
the NRS, data systems, assessment, part-time teachers and program mangers, and
the myriad of other issues State Directors face each day, she knows the needs
and can help focus the federal efforts to benefit all adult education.
As
those of you who have moved up the ranks know, it is often challenging to make
the transition from "colleague" to "commander." I know you join me in a commitment to help her make that
transition. We could not ask for
a better leader.
Keep
up the good work. Let me know
when we can help.
